Dukkan Abdulaal (دكان عبد العال) is a shop in Al-Bass, Tyre, Lebanon. The store itself runs the Dukkan Abdulaal app and this website. This page explains what the app keeps about you, why, who helps the store run it, and how to delete it.
What we keep
- Your account: your first and last name, mobile number, date of birth and gender (you can choose "Prefer not to say"), and your email if you add one.
- How you sign in: your password, kept only in a scrambled form that no one can read back; if you sign in with Apple or Google, the ID they give us and the email they share; and the settings for two-step sign-in if you turn it on.
- The delivery addresses you save: area, street, building, floor, notes and the pin on the map.
- Your orders: what was in them and the prices, delivery or pickup, how you chose to pay (cash, card or Whish), the points and promo codes you used, your notes, the delivery address, and the rating or comment you give an order. The app never sees your card or Whish details.
- The rest: your favourite items, your points on the store's customer card, and your choices: language, digits and offer notifications.
What the app uses on your phone
Only when you use the feature, and only after you allow it:
- Camera: to scan an item's barcode. The picture stays on your phone; only the barcode number is used to find the item. Store staff also use the camera to take pictures of the items.
- Location: to put the pin on your door when you add a delivery address. It is saved only as part of that address. The map pictures come from OpenStreetMap, and your phone's own map service (Apple or Google) turns the pin into a street name.
- Microphone: to search by speaking. Your phone's speech service (Apple or Google) turns your words into text; the app receives only the text, never the recording.
- Face ID or fingerprint: if you turn on the app lock. Your phone checks it; the app never sees your face or your fingerprint.
On your phone, the app keeps your sign-in (in the phone's secure storage), your cart and your language.
Why
To prepare and deliver your orders, contact you about them, give you your points and keep your account safe. Your date of birth and gender help the store understand who shops with it and choose offers that suit its customers. You get offer notifications only if you turn them on.
We never sell your information or give it to anyone for advertising. The app has no ads and no advertising or tracking tools.
Who sees it
- The store's staff, in the store's own system. The driver who brings an order sees that order's address and your number.
- Companies that run parts of the service for the store, only for that job:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS): the app's server, its backups, and the messages with your codes: by email (Amazon SES) and on WhatsApp. The server is in Stockholm, Sweden (EU).
- WhatsApp (Meta): delivers the codes that confirm your number to your WhatsApp, sent through AWS.
- Apple and Google: if you choose to sign in with them, and on your phone for voice search and street names, as above. On Android, Google's barcode reader (ML Kit) also sends Google technical information (the phone's model, the app's version and how well scanning works) to keep it working; the picture stays on your phone.
- OpenStreetMap: the map pictures, when you set a pin.
- Some item pictures come from Open Food Facts. Only the item's barcode is sent there, never anything about you.
- Anyone else only if the law requires it.
Where it's kept and how it's protected
On the app's server at AWS in Stockholm, and on the store's own computer in Tyre. Everything travels encrypted (https). The server's disk and all backups are encrypted, and the store's backups are locked with a key only the store has. Only staff with their own username and password can see customers' details, each according to their role.
How long we keep it
As long as you have an account. When you delete it, your details are removed from the app straight away, and the copies in the encrypted backups are gone within about 35 days.
The store keeps its sales records (what was sold, when and for how much) for as long as the law requires, without your address, notes or comments. Your customer card at the store's till keeps your name, number and points, so you can still use your points at the till; ask the store and it will remove the card too.
Your choices
- See and correct your details in the app: Account → Edit profile.
- Turn offer notifications on or off at any time.
- Delete your account in the app, or ask the store to do it: see Delete your account.
- Ask the store what it keeps about you.
Children
The app is not meant for children under 13, and the store doesn't knowingly keep information about them.
